An article titled “Exploring the Nexus between Emissions, Economic Growth, and Employment: Evidence from Azerbaijan” written by the employees of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) has been published in the prestigious Croatian journal Economic Thought and Practice in the “Online First” format. The mentioned journal is indexed in Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases and annually publishes only 30 of the highest-quality papers submitted worldwide.

The article, co-authored by Dr. Ramil Huseyn, Deputy Executive Director of CAERC; Dr. Aqil Asadov, Head of the Strategic Planning Department; PhD. Latif Zeynalli, Head of the State Programs Department; and PhD. Abdulrahim Dadashov, Deputy Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department, explores a topic of great relevance for our country. Azerbaijan has taken significant steps toward green development by implementing large-scale solar and wind energy projects. In particular, the establishment of “green energy zones” in the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions strengthens Azerbaijan’s role as a strategic player in the global energy transition. Azerbaijan aims to ensure that 30% of its energy production comes from renewable sources by 2030.

The article empirically examines the interrelationships between CO₂ emissions, economic growth, and employment in the context of Azerbaijan’s transition to a green economy. The research findings reveal a strong bidirectional relationship between economic growth and employment, meaning that policies promoting economic growth directly stimulate the labor market. At the same time, a unidirectional relationship identified between CO₂ emissions and employment clearly demonstrates the impact of environmental factors on labor dynamics. Based on these results, the authors emphasize that a shift toward a low-carbon, innovation-driven economic model can contribute to ensuring inclusive economic growth, creating green jobs, and achieving global climate goals for Azerbaijan.

The issues reflected in the article will also be among the main discussion topics within the framework of the COP30 Climate Summit, which will be held in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025.
