Vusal Gasimli Discusses the Prospects of the Middle Corridor with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Azerbaijan
Vusal Gasimli, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), received Kang Kımgun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The meeting focused on the prospects for developing Azerbaijan–Korea economic relations, the growing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor in global supply chains, artificial intelligence and data-driven governance, regional data strategy, green transport corridors, and opportunities for cooperation in the field of renewable energy.
Vusal Gasimli noted that the Middle Corridor is not merely a transit route connecting Asia and Europe, but also a multifaceted economic platform that promotes trade, investment, production, energy cooperation, and regional integration. Azerbaijan’s favorable geographical location and modern transport and logistics infrastructure strengthen the country’s role as one of the key hubs of the corridor.
The participants also emphasized that combining Korea’s advanced technological capabilities and expertise in smart logistics with Azerbaijan’s regional connectivity potential could create new opportunities for cooperation. The prospects for the digitalization of port and railway infrastructure, the development of intelligent logistics systems, real-time cargo tracking, and paperless trade mechanisms were discussed.
It was highlighted that artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and forecasting models can help optimize cargo flows, identify logistics risks in advance, and accelerate border-crossing procedures. The sides also exchanged views on opportunities for cooperation in green logistics, reducing carbon emissions, the use of renewable energy sources, and the transmission of green energy.
The meeting concluded with discussions on opportunities for conducting joint research between the analytical centers and research institutions of the two countries, organizing expert exchanges, and holding joint events in relevant areas.
The meeting was attended by Kim Changsoo, Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Azerbaijan; Rashad Najafli, Deputy Head of the Economic Analysis Department at CAERC; and Ismat Mehraliyeva, Head of the Digital Trade Hub.
