Representatives of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) visited the Shamkir and Samux districts to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the "National Strategy for the Efficient Use of Water Resources."

Alongside CAERC, the visit involved representatives from the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as local executive authorities.

In the Shamkir district, inspections were carried out to review the works executed at the Shamkir reservoir. In the Samux district, at the Yenikend reservoir, it was identified that there is a lack of speed control on the road crossing over the dam, coupled with the heavy-tonnage vehicle traffic and the absence of an alternative road for the population. Furthermore, it was determined that the main headworks delivering water to the canal require capital repair. Concurrently, discussions were held regarding the unlined, earthen structure of the Garasaggal canal's left bank, the flood risks faced by the villages located along the lower section of the canal, and matters regarding the repair of pumping stations.

It should be noted that according to the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated October 10, 2024, the monitoring and evaluation of the execution of measures scheduled under the "National Strategy for the Efficient Use of Water Resources" is carried out by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication based on the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Within the framework of the Strategy, measures aimed at water resource management, the reduction of water losses, infrastructure modernization, and the deployment of modern irrigation systems are being implemented.
