Regional Public Discussion on “Economic Reforms in Azerbaijan: Achievements and Prospects” Held in Shirvan
A regional public discussion titled “Economic Reforms in Azerbaijan: Achievements and Prospects” was held in Shirvan by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event brought together nearly 300 entrepreneurs, municipal officials, and members of the public from Beylagan, Bilasuvar, Hajigabul, Imishli, Neftchala, Saatli, Sabirabad, and Salyan, which are part of the Aran economic region.
The event began with a visit to the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, where flowers were laid in tribute.
Vusal Gasimli, Executive Director of CAERC, welcomed the participants and noted that Shirvan, after Baku, possesses the second-largest military-industrial complex in the South Caucasus. He emphasized that the city is also a key transport hub where electricity generation, oil and gas production, and both light and heavy industries are actively developed. “The economic reforms being implemented ensure that regional cities such as Shirvan become development centers of their regions. In particular, Shirvan plays an important role in organizing the processing of agricultural products produced in surrounding rural districts,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of public participation in ensuring the success of economic reforms, V. Gasimli stressed that reforms have already become the main driver of the economy. “On the one hand, systematic economic reforms, and on the other, state-established infrastructure, result in strengthening the regional economy and improving public welfare,” he added.
Elkhan Mikayilov, Head of Sector at the Service of the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Economic Policy and Industry Issues, noted that in accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, discussions held in the regions for an extended period serve to ensure the participation of regional entrepreneurs in the implementation of Strategic Roadmaps and reforms aimed at improving the business environment. He also emphasized that such discussions are important for identifying region-specific implementation measures under the Strategic Roadmaps.
During the discussions, Zaur Gardashov, Head of the Azexport portal under CAERC, delivered a presentation. Fariz Ahmadov, Head of Sector at the Ministry of Economy, also provided entrepreneurs with information relevant to the region. The event was attended by Sabid Abiyev, First Deputy Head of the Shirvan City Executive Authority; Fuad Mahmudov, Director of the Territorial Tax Department No. 5 under the Ministry of Taxes; and regional representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Following the presentations, questions from entrepreneurs, municipal representatives, and members of the public were addressed. It should be noted that CAERC has previously held similar discussions on this topic with nearly 1,500 members of the public in Aghdam, Sheki, Guba, Ismayilli, Ganja, and Sumgayit.
