March Issue of the Export Review Presented
The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication presented the Export Review issue for March 2021. The Review mentions that during January-February 2021, the export of Azerbaijan amounted to 2.8 billion US dollars, including non-oil export equal to 331.3 million US dollars. The non-oil export increased by 33.6 million US dollars or 11.3 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
In January-February 2021, raw cotton (37.1 million US dollars) took first place among exported products of the non-oil sector. Gold (34.4 million US dollars) and persimmon (27.9 million US dollars) shared second and third places.
In January-February 2021, the value of non-oil products exported to Turkey amounted to 106.9 million US dollars, Russia – 85.5 million US dollars, Switzerland – 35.2 million US dollars, Georgia – 28.3 million US dollars, and to the USA – 13.2 million US dollars.
In February 2021, exports in the non-oil sector amounted to 185.2 million US dollars. In February of this year, Turkey (54.1 million US dollars) topped the list of countries exporting the most non-oil goods. Russia was second (42.7 million US dollars) and Switzerland was third (25.1 million US dollars).
In February 2021, gold (24.7 million US dollars) took first place among exported products of the non-oil sector. Raw cotton (22.7 million US dollars) and electricity (15.7 million US dollars) shared second and third places.
During the first three months of 2021, exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to 70.5 million, cotton fiber – 37.4 million, aluminum and products made from it – 27.7 million, chemical industry products – 6.3 million, ferrous metals and products made from them – 14.6 million, cotton yarn – 6.9 million, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks – 1.9 million, sugar – 4.9 million, vegetable and animal fat and oils – 3.9 million, and tea – 1.4 million US dollars.
The February issue of the Export Review presents a rating of the main non-oil sector exporting companies. The top ten companies in the ranking of non-state exporters in January-February 2021 are the following: MKT Industrial Commerce LLC, Representation of Azerbaijan International Mining Company Limited in the Republic of Azerbaijan, P-Agro LLC, Baku Steel Company LLC, Critical Fruit LLC, Almeyve LLC, Metal Trader LLC, Sun Food LLC, Azerbaijan Sugar Production Association and Agrovest LLC.
The list of state-owned companies involved in export operations in the non-oil sector is headed by the SOCAR Marketing and Economic Operations Department. Next on this list are SOCAR Polymer LLC, Azeraluminium LLC, Azergold CJSC, Azerenergy OJSC, Azercotton Agricultural, and Industrial Complex LLC, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Azeripek LLC, Azertutun Agricultural and Industrial Complex LLC, and Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC.
The Export Review also informs on the export of services. According to the Review, in January-February 2021, Azercosmos OJSC exported services (satellite telecommunication and optical services) worth 8.5 million US dollars to 23 countries of the world. Profit earned from the export of services amounted to 90 percent of the total profit of Azercosmos OJSC. In February 2021, Azercosmos OJSC exported services worth 6.5 million US dollars to 21 countries of the world. In January-February 2021, the top 5 countries where Azercosmos exported its services included the USA, the UK, France, UAE, and Pakistan.
The decline in the tourism sector as a result of the crisis caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continued in the first months of this year. According to the State Border Service, in January-February 2021, 72,100 foreigners and stateless persons arrived in Azerbaijan from 123 countries. That is 5.9 times less than in the same period last year. Most of the visits were for a non-tourism purpose.
In February 2021, the total cost of operations made by foreign citizens through bank cards in our country amounted to 25.5 million manat. In February 2021, this indicator was 0.5 million manat.
The Export Review also provides information on export orders submitted to the Azexport.az portal in February 2021. The total amount of export orders submitted to the portal for this period amounted to 35.3 million US dollars. During January-February 2021, the cost of total orders submitted to the portal was 89.2 million US dollars.
In February 2021, the list of the most popular exported goods included: tobacco, powdered sugar, hazelnut kernels, sunflower oil, licorice root, tea, wine, chicken eggs, fruit juice, cosmetics, motor oil, confectionery, cotton, chicken, saffron, garlic, etc. From January 2017 to February 28, 2021 (for 50 months), the value of export orders received by the portal Azexport.az from 143 countries amounted to 2 billion 285 million US dollars.
At the same time, according to the Export Review, during March 2021, the total cost of the non-oil export implemented through the One-Stop-Shop Export Support Center was 18.4 million US dollars. From 2017 to March 2021, the total amount of goods and products exported through the One-Stop-Shop Export Support Center was 520.6 million US dollars.
