“Export Review”: What Are Azerbaijan’s Main Exports?
The June issue of the “Export Review” published by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication has been released. According to this issue, in May 2017, 445 companies in the non-oil sector conducted export operations totaling USD 149 million. The main goods exported during May included: tomatoes, potatoes, white sugar, low-density polyethylene (with a specific gravity below 0.94), methanol (methyl alcohol), rectangular sheets over 0.2 mm thick made from aluminum alloys, sheets, strips, gold, unprocessed and unalloyed aluminum, shelled forest hazelnuts, cotton fiber, grape pomace, copper ores and concentrates, sunflower or safflower oil, apples, onions, and others.
During the first five months of 2017, non-oil sector exports totaled USD 557 million, with 1,021 companies participating in these export operations. The top five destination countries for non-oil products in this period were Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Switzerland, and Turkmenistan.
Regarding the contribution of the Azexport.az portal to non-oil sector exports, the “Export Review” notes that in May 2017, the total value of orders received through the portal amounted to USD 19 million. That month, the portal received orders for the first time from Slovakia, Taiwan, and Suriname.
Analyzing the orders by product shows that various non-oil sector goods were requested, including: dried milk, fruit-flavored milk, red eggs, sunflower oil, chicken meat, rebar, Jerusalem artichoke, wine, butter, cotton seeds, apples, cosmetics, pasta, bricks, pomegranates, rock salt, automotive diagnostic devices, tea, bedding sets, silk carpets, furniture sets, engine oil, confectionery, paints, and pomegranate juice.
An interesting trend observed in May was the increase in orders from Saudi Arabia, the United States, and India through Azexport.az. Orders from Saudi Arabia included tea, confectionery, and automotive diagnostic equipment; from the United States, natural honey, hazelnut kernels, pomegranate juice, and decorative glassware; and from India, pomegranate juice, cognac, and other products.
Overall, the Azexport.az portal received export orders worth USD 48 million in January, USD 6.5 million in February, USD 27 million in March, USD 29.9 million in April, and USD 19 million in May 2017. In total, during the first five months of 2017, the portal received export orders from 45 countries totaling USD 130 million.
The Export Review is published regularly, aiming to inform entrepreneurs about export opportunities, enhance access for local products to traditional and new markets, and accelerate their integration into international markets.
