 The South Caucasus is becoming a region of peace and cooperation

The meeting of the heads of state of Azerbaijan and the United States, the decisions made during the meeting, and the documents signed represent the beginning of a new stage in Washington's South Caucasus policy. Thus, the peace agreement, agreed upon with the testimony of the US head of state, creates a real basis for the more than 30-year-old conflict in the Caucasus to become history and for the establishment of sustainable peace in the region. In particular, the abolition of the OSCE Minsk Group, the abolition of Amendment 907, which is an indicator of an unfair attitude towards our country, and the agreements reached in the Armenian constitution to eliminate territorial claims against Azerbaijan also form a reliable basis for economic development. The South Caucasus, which has long been remembered as a conflict zone, is becoming a region of peace and cooperation. The initialing of the peace agreement on the resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict with the participation of the US leader and the establishment of peace in the region also form a real basis for long-term economic progress. The fact that the visit was held at the official invitation of the US President clarifies many issues. This, first of all, indicates that the President of Azerbaijan is one of the leading leaders of the world, once again confirms that the Azerbaijani state is a reliable partner, and can also be perceived as an indicator of the trust and confidence in our country throughout the world. First of all, it was agreed to open the Zangezur corridor under the name “Trump Road for International Peace and Prosperity”, which is of significant regional and global importance. The corridor, which will create a land connection between the main territory of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, will both provide uninterrupted land road connectivity with Nakhchivan, and will also form a new transport map in the region by opening a direct route to Turkey. At the same time, this means the successful implementation of the issue envisaged in the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020, but the implementation of which has been delayed by Armenia for years. The opening of the corridor will facilitate Azerbaijan and Armenia's access to foreign markets, thereby giving impetus to the development of trade relations between the two countries. On the other hand, it will create conditions for the intensity of international cargo transportation, which will contribute to the development of world trade and the balancing of the distribution of goods between the world's countries.

The visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the United States is of great importance in terms of the development of mutual relations. At the same time, this visit will also contribute to issues such as the establishment of reliable peace in the region, global and regional security, and the elimination of the cold in Azerbaijan-US relations that arose during the Biden era. Of course, in addition to the political and strategic importance of the visit, the high-level negotiations between the Presidents will also have an impact on the development of economic relations.

During the visit, a relevant document on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States was signed, and a Strategic Working Group was established to develop this direction. The document covers three areas:

1. Energy, trade and transport;

2. Digitalization and artificial intelligence issues;

3. Defense and security issues.

All three areas are of extremely important political, strategic and economic importance. The development of relations in the above areas with the world's number one state will undoubtedly contribute to the development of the Azerbaijani economy. With the advent of peace in the region, billions of investments, new equipment and technologies will be attracted to various areas. In our country, especially in the liberated territories, such areas as organic agricultural production, various service sectors, digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence in these reconstructed territories may be attractive to American businessmen. It is clear that peace is not only a political decision, but also a door to long-term economic progress. In this sense, the transformation of the South Caucasus into a region of cooperation will create new opportunities for overall economic progress.

Friendly relations between heads of state and high-level meetings are important for the development of bilateral relations, and the diplomacy of leaders forms more reliable, sustainable and intensive relations. In this sense, the friendly relations of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and the United States, similar views on many issues, are an unshakable foundation for a new strategic alliance.
