The CAERC Starts Cooperation with Pakistan’s Think Tanks
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Azerbaijan organized an online meeting between the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) and the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE). The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Azerbaijan, Mr. Bilal Hayee, made an introductory speech on the importance of relations between the think tanks of Azerbaijan and Pakistan in the field of economic policy and moderated the meeting. Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), told the participants about the economic reforms carried out in the country under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the position of Azerbaijan as one of the top reformer countries in the Doing Business report, the successful implementation of strategic management in Azerbaijan and the monitoring and evaluation activities. He also provided information on the Center's projects, including Azexport.az, EnterpriseAzerbaijan.com, Digital Trade Hub, Azranking.az and One-Stop-Shop Export Support Center. At the same time, V.Gasimli presented Azerbaijan’s economic and econometric model used in the CAERC for macroeconomic analyses, as well as Economic Growth Diagnostics study. He also stressed the impact of the new landscape in the South Caucasus region, formed after the liberation of territories of Azerbaijan, and the Zangezur transport corridor, which is going to be restored, on regional trade and transit routes. He invited his colleagues from the Pakistan’s think tank to establish cooperation that would help increase trade between the countries of the East-West Transport Corridor, including Azerbaijan and Pakistan, on joint research and policy analysis discussions for the region's trade and transport potential.
Head of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) Nadim ul Haq briefed the participants on the activities of the PIDE - an independent research organization of the Pakistani government that conducts theoretical and empirical research in connection with the Development Economics and Pakistan. He noted that PIDE has been conducting research on social policy for 61 years and has gained international prestige and recognition. He also noted that world-renowned economists such as Nobel Laureate Robert A. Mundell are represented in the advisory committee of PIDE. After, Nadim ul Haq provided information on Research for Social Transformation and Advancement (RASTA) grant program implemented within PIDE’s Public Sector Development Program. Besides, he said that the Pakistani government aims to develop a high-quality, evidence-based policy research network to inform the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives (PSDP), Pakistan's top academies and think tanks, and Pakistan's public policy community.
