Vusal Gasimli spoke at the report of the World Bank
Vusal Gasimli, Executive director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, spoke at the World Bank's "Global Economic Perspectives" report. During the speech of the presentation in the panel discussion entitled "The impact of global and regional economic slowdown on Azerbaijan", Vusal Gasimli said that reforms are being continued for the transition of Azerbaijan's economy to a high growth trajectory in the long term: "According to the EBRD's calculations, reforms can accelerate the rate of economic growth by more than 5 percent. Total savings in Azerbaijan are 33 percent of GDP, exceeding the world average of 27 percent. Nevertheless, gross capital formation in the country in 2021 was 17 percent of GDP, which is lower than the world average. Compared to the average world index, savings in Azerbaijan are high and investment is low, indicating that there are opportunities for potential investment. In general, the higher the capital formation of an economy, the faster the economy can increase its aggregate income. The new economic model aims for more private investment and efficiency."
At the event, Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Mammadov spoke about the importance of the report and said that the presentation of the report for the first time in Azerbaijan is a significant event. "The report examines global economic developments and prospects, with a particular focus on emerging economies. From this point of view, the document has important practical importance. The report is one of the important sources of information for economic management, business, investors, financial-banking sector," he said.
The presentation provided information on the work done within the framework of the 2022-2026 socio-economic development strategy and other state programs, which were carried out in order to provide an adequate approach to global challenges, faster diversification of the country's economy and sustainable economic growth, restoration and reintegration of our liberated territories. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan has become a reliable energy supplier of Europe, an internationally important transport and logistics hub, and the interest of strategic investors in the country has increased significantly.
Sarah Michael, the country manager of the World Bank for Azerbaijan, and Franziska Ohnsorge, the manager of the "Global Economic Perspectives" report, also made speeches at the event.
