The next meeting of the working group on "Green energy space" was held
A meeting of the "Green energy space" working group was held to discuss the implementation of measures outlined in the "Socio-economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2022-2026" for the first half of 2024.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Energy Samir Valiyev, who chaired the meeting, emphasized that the projects undertaken as part of the Strategy are aligned with the initiatives implemented under the "Green World Solidarity Year". He also noted that regular meetings of the working group enhance the effectiveness of accountability.
Ramil Huseyn, Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, the deputy chairman of the working group, presented the preliminary assessment report on the results of the monitoring conducted in the first half of 2024 within the framework of the Strategy's implementation. Information was provided on the performance indicators for the "Green energy space" measures, covering six areas of activity. Key achievements discussed included the development of public-private partnerships in the gas and heat supply sectors, research into the potential of offshore wind energy, bioenergy, and geothermal energy, the expansion of energy use opportunities, the creation of an information system for renewable energy sources, the preparation of the National Plan for Electromobility, the implementation of energy storage systems, and the development of carbon capture, disposal, and storage technologies. Other measures discussed included improving energy efficiency across various sectors of the economy.
Reports from other working group members were also presented, followed by discussions on next steps, challenges, and recommendations. The tasks related to the effective implementation of measures for the upcoming period were highlighted, as outlined in the strategy document.
It should be noted that, in addition to the Ministry of Energy and the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, the "Green energy space" working group includes representatives from the ministries of Economy, Ecology and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Digital Development and Transport, Finance, Emergency Situations, SOCAR, the Central Bank, Azerbaijan Investment Holding, the State Statistics Committee, the State Urban Planning and Architecture Committee, the State Customs Committee, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, "Azersu," "Melioration and Water Management," "Azerenergy," "Azerishig," and "Azeristiliktehizat" OJSCs.
Eight working groups were established by the Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 12, 2023, to ensure the full, timely, and effective implementation of the measures outlined in the "Socio-economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022-2026" and to coordinate the activities of the relevant state bodies. The "Green energy space" working group is responsible for implementing the "Green energy space" goal and coordinating the activities of the relevant state bodies.
