Ilyas Huseynov, Head of the Turkic World Research Center (TWRC) at the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), spoke at a round table discussion titled “How do current wars shape Azerbaijan’s strategic role in the new energy order?” organized by the Institute for Development and Diplomacy (IDD) of ADA University.

During the round table, it was noted that current wars have created significant shifts in the global energy system, weakening the reliability of traditional supply routes and increasing the demand for alternative energy corridors. This process has brought the issue of energy security to the forefront, compelling states to reduce their dependence on a single source or route. Consequently, diversification in energy markets and the development of new transport and transit opportunities have become increasingly relevant.

Ilyas Huseynov stated that the emerging energy order creates both opportunities and challenges for Azerbaijan. While increasing demand and strategic significance expand the country's international cooperation opportunities, issues such as regional stability, infrastructure security, and the long-term energy transition require special attention. In this new reality, Azerbaijan plays a vital strategic bridge role between East and West, thanks to its geographical position and developed energy infrastructure. As one of the main routes connecting the Caspian region's resources with European markets, the country's importance continues to grow. At the same time, Azerbaijan is strengthening its position not only as an energy exporter but also as a transit and logistics hub.

The primary objective of the event was to analyze the impact of conflicts on the energy market, Azerbaijan's changing strategic role, and the resulting opportunities and challenges within an expert discussion. The round table was attended by representatives of think tanks and relevant government agencies.
