Global Think Tanks Forum was held at CAERC
The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), and the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program Institute (CAREC Institute), organized the Global Think Tank Forum.
The forum, held under the theme "Global Green Economy: Climate Action, Financing, and Innovation," convened representatives from the most influential think tanks included in the T20 network, as well as prominent academics, state officials, private sector leaders, NGOs, and other key stakeholders.
A central focus of the forum was the green economy model, which aims to ensure sustainable development by aligning economic growth with environmental protection. Participants underscored the critical importance of reducing carbon emissions, expanding renewable energy sources, implementing green financial mechanisms, and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
The Global Think Tank Forum sought to foster dialogue among nations to deepen understanding of the effects of climate change and to promote initiatives supporting the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The forum also significantly contributed to enhancing Azerbaijan's global reputation within the framework of COP29 and bolstering the country's strategic position within the international think tank network.
The forum featured two main sessions. The first session, "Global Pathways to Sustainability: Mitigation, Adaptation, and Energy Transition," focused on energy transitions, strategies for adaptation, and innovative policies to achieve global climate objectives. The second session, "Green Finance for Global Climate Resilience: Strategies and Innovations," examined topics such as green bonds, sustainable investment mechanisms, and the role of the financial sector in advancing climate goals.
This event served as a vital platform for addressing climate change, promoting the development of the green economy, and strengthening global cooperation. Participants proposed strategies to enhance the role of think tanks in achieving climate goals. The event also showcased Azerbaijan's contributions to the advancement of the green economy and its active participation in global efforts to combat climate change.
In addition to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), and the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program Institute (CAREC Institute), the forum was attended by representatives of leading global think tanks, including the Brookings Institution, the Italian Institute of International Relations (IAI), the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), the UN University - Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, the Stockholm Environment Institute, the Asia Platform on Water and Climate Change, the South African Institute of International Affairs, the Kazakhstan-British Technical University, and the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC).
The forum highlighted its significance as an academic and practical platform for tackling climate change, advancing the green economy, and fostering international collaboration. Furthermore, it reinforced Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainable development and its contributions to global climate change mitigation efforts.
