The “GIS-Tech Marathon 2025,” organized in collaboration with the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) and the GIS-specialized company “Caucasus Geo Survey,” has been successfully completed. During the event, young specialists who successfully finished the marathon were awarded, and the opportunities presented to the winners were announced.

During the opening, Rauf Amanov, the director of “Caucasus Geo Survey,” congratulated the winners of the marathon. He stated that over the 40-day marathon, young specialists were introduced to the fundamentals of spatial data systems technology and its real-world applications. He also added that throughout the marathon, participants had the opportunity to receive training from leading experts worldwide, enhancing both their theoretical and practical skills.

Ayaz Museyibov, the deputy executive director of CAERC, mentioned that GIS technology plays an indispensable role in environmental monitoring, transportation management, and emergency management in modern times. He emphasized that GIS helps in making more accurate decisions in a variety of areas, from natural resource management to urban planning. He pointed out that GIS development in Azerbaijan is accelerating, and trends show the widespread use of this technology in various state projects and private initiatives. Particularly in the reconstruction efforts in the territories liberated from occupation, the use of these technologies is extensive. The development of GIS is of great importance in the implementation of Azerbaijan’s social-economic development strategies and in the formation of a sustainable governance model.

It is worth noting that the “GIS-Tech Marathon 2025” was held in partnership with the renowned Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). Ahmed El Awady, an international GIS expert and representative of ESRI, conducted a master class during the awards ceremony.

In the end, the winning graduates were awarded. The project partners include ESRI, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Azercosmos, the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, and the Made in Azerbaijan (MinA) platform.
