World Bank: SMEs' access to international markets should be supported by expanding Azexport's services

The World Bank recommends that Azerbaijan intensify reforms aimed at improving the business environment and attracting private investment.

According to the Bank’s experts, the Azerbaijani government continues to make consistent efforts to support the private sector. Analysts believe that more regular consultations between the public and private sectors will be key to addressing the challenges that hinder private sector investments.

The World Bank emphasizes that institutional support for SMEs’ access to domestic and international markets should be strengthened by expanding and better directing the services provided by the “Azexport” portal and other relevant institutions.

According to the report, to promote business and investment climate reforms, key stakeholders (both public and private) should be involved in the process, and the effectiveness of institutional and legislative support should be enhanced. In addition, the World Bank recommends continuing the legal and judicial reforms carried out in recent years and testing additional efforts to improve mechanisms related to intellectual property rights.
