Azerbaijan-US Economic Relations Hold Long-Term Prospects
As is known, US Vice President J.D. Vance has commenced his regional visit. Following meetings in Yerevan last week, Mr. Vance is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan this week. On the eve of this visit, President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation from the US Chamber of Commerce. The meeting included executives from leading companies such as Apple, Ardea Energy Technologies Inc., Ericsson AB, ExxonMobil, Herbalife, Illumina, Meta, Visa, Wabtec, bp, Boeing Global, Mastercard, and others. The messages conveyed through these reciprocal visits and meetings underscore the United States' interest in long-term cooperation with the countries of the region.
Commenting on the subject, Agil Asadov, Head of Department at the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), noted that the visit of a delegation consisting of over 60 representatives from 31 leading US companies, along with discussions at the highest governmental level, signals the long-term prospects of Azerbaijan-US economic relations.
Azerbaijan has repeatedly articulated the priorities of its economic development strategy in various forums—including discussions in the US, the World Economic Forum, and other platforms—and remains ready to cooperate with all states that respect the norms of international law. It is encouraging that the United States, as the world’s leading power, is interested in strengthening peace in the region and realizing the economic development prospects of both Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Naturally, the TRIPP project (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity), which forms the cornerstone of the US regional engagement, is being met with significant interest on the international stage as a promising initiative. In parallel, the interest shown by leading US companies in sectors such as energy, transport, natural gas, tourism, artificial intelligence, data centers, and the defense industry not only reflects the prospects of Azerbaijan-US relations but can also be viewed as the initial positive outcomes of the Strategic Partnership Charter currently under preparation between the two nations.
According to Agil Asadov, while business ties typically develop faster than political relations, Azerbaijan-US relations are unique in that political engagement is currently leading the way for business connections. The meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and US President Donald Trump at the White House on August 8, 2025, provided a special stimulus to business and economic ties between the two countries. A few months after that August meeting, leading US companies are now in Baku to witness the favorable investment climate firsthand, finalize specific investment areas, and establish long-term business partnerships.
As evidenced by the meeting with the Head of State, sectors such as transport and logistics, renewable energy, the creation of AI and data centers, the exploitation of underground energy resources, and tourism services possess rich potential as the driving forces of Azerbaijan-US economic relations.
During the meeting with the visiting US executives, President Ilham Aliyev stated: "...Today, the number of companies working with us is increasing. The geography of our international relations is also expanding. We have signed strategic partnership documents, agreements, and declarations with many countries. Some of these countries are not on good terms with each other. However, I have always said that Azerbaijan will never be a place of conflict; it will be a place of cooperation." These remarks further confirm the favorable investment environment and long-term stability established in Azerbaijan.
Agil Asadov added that Azerbaijan is the leader of the region and a premier transport-transit hub in Eurasia. Starting 25-30 years ago, our country has developed a reliable transport infrastructure and mechanisms capable of carrying all types of cargo. These factors make economic engagement with Azerbaijan a necessity for all parties interested in the region. In other words, the successful implementation of any project in the region without Azerbaijan's participation is impossible. In this regard, the world’s leading power recognizes and values this reality, demonstrating a clear interest in establishing long-term economic ties with Azerbaijan.
