The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), in collaboration with the Coordinating Council on Transit Freight of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has published the “Transit Overview” in both Azerbaijani and English.

Authored under the initiative of Dr. Vusal Gasimli, Executive Director of CAERC and Doctor of Economic Sciences, the overview presents a comprehensive analysis of transit freight, including statistical data, ongoing regional and national projects and programs, as well as events aimed at enhancing the flexibility of cargo transportation through the application of new technologies and improving the attractiveness of freight routes.

The publication analyzes key initiatives such as the Zangezur Corridor, Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, Lapis Lazuli route, and the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, alongside transit-related projects implemented in Georgia and Kazakhstan. Special attention is given to the prospects of the Middle Corridor, with detailed assessments of strategies to increase freight volume and transportation intensity along this route.

The overview is based on the “2024 Report on Transit Cargo Passing Through the Territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” compiled by the Coordinating Council on Transit Freight. It was drafted by Mr. Aqil Asadov, Head of Department at CAERC, with expert consultation provided by Mr. Rauf Agamirzayev, a transport specialist.

As the first issue of its kind, the “Transit Overview” is intended to be the inaugural edition of a series of future publications. It supports the implementation and promotion of the objectives outlined in the Presidential Decree dated November 23, 2023, approving the “Action Plan for 2024–2026 on Enhancing the Transit Potential of International Transport Corridors Passing Through the Territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Promoting Transit Freight.”
