CAERC and the UN are developing a "Food Safety" textbook
The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has organized a training session on "Food Safety." The event was attended by the co-authors of the upcoming textbook on this subject, as well as representatives from participating organizations.
Professor Vusal Gasimli, Executive Director of CAERC, delivered the opening speech, highlighting the importance of the food safety reforms implemented in Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the participation of authors from government agencies, academia, and the private sector within this joint project by CAERC and the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AFSA) has enabled the book to become a fundamental resource that bridges theoretical knowledge with practical examples. Vusal Gasimli added that cooperation with FAO experts to align the project with international standards and enrich its content will significantly contribute to making the textbook an exemplary academic resource.
Bariz Mehdiyev, Assistant FAO Representative in Azerbaijan, noted that significant steps have been taken in Azerbaijan toward deepening institutional reforms, improving the regulatory framework, and strengthening control mechanisms in the field of food safety. Emphasizing the special importance of studying, managing, and teaching food safety on a scientific basis, he pointed out that this project serves to strengthen the knowledge-based development model in Azerbaijan's food safety sector. Bariz Mehdiyev wished success for the training session and noted that joint cooperation would continue in the future refinement of the book.
The event continued with a presentation by Ganna Vasilenko, FAO's International Food Safety Expert. The presentation outlined the topics to be covered in the textbook based on international best practices, followed by discussions with the co-authors.
The development process of the project involves an extensive group of authors, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AFSA), the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control, Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Khazar University, as well as experts from "Veysaloglu" and "Refresh Group" LLC.
