Strategic Road Map of National Economy discussed in Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences
Baku - On September 22, there was held a meeting of the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences with regard to discussion of “Strategic Road Map for national economy and major sectors of economy”. The event was attended by Natig Amirov the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for economic reforms and the management of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications.
Academician Akif Alizade the President of ANAS opened the meeting with opening remarks. The Academician saying that the 25th anniversary of independence had been solemnly marked in our country in the recent days, noted that significant progress had been made within this period and important achievements had been recorded in all areas including in economy.
Academician Akif Alizade said that each sector individually investigated in the road map of the economic reforms could develop benefiting from the advanced scientific achievements. President of ANAS noted that development of both these sectors and infrastructure areas included in the road map requires rapid and effective application of the scientific achievements. The head of the Academy also said that the strategic road map would specify the general targets for 2025 and post-2025 period in addition to strategy of economic development and action plan for 2017-2020.
Then Natig Amirov the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for economic reforms stressed that President Ilham Aliyev successfully continued the new stage of the economic reforms in our country relying on the development strategy devised by National Leader Haydar Aliyev. The reporter stated that beside the state authorities the representatives of local and foreign communities, educational institutions, private sector and civil society took an active part in preparation of the strategic road map. He noted that all the opportunities were used in order to have an inclusive and detailed document. N.Amirov stressed that that there had been developed the documents such as a detailed road map for one year, an economic development strategy and an action plan for 2016-2020, long – term vision for 2025 and post- 2025 target vision within the frame of strategic road map. The reporter added that the strategic road map covering six major production and services sectors, two social sectors and three infrastructure sectors would be the main document of economic strategy in the following decade.
Vusal Gasimli Executive Director of Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications made a presentation in the meeting on “Economy of Azerbaijan: Global challenges and National Strategy”. Head of the Center stated that the process for building a competitive and inclusive economy and for economic development would continue in Azerbaijan.
V.Gasimli emphasized that Azerbaijan would improve total output deficiency by improving the long – term (potential) level of the economic growth. He noted that fiscal and monetary policies would be used in the short run while investment environment and infrastructure supporting total supply would further improve in the medium and long run, access to markets would be expanded, and positions in the global value chain would be strengthened.
There were made reports by Academician Ziyad Samadzade the chairman of the Committee for Economic policy, industry and entrepreneurship in the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Reforms in the national economy and future prospects”, Nazim Imanov the Director of Institute of Economy of ANAS and the doctor of sciences in economy on “Road map document in new economic context”, Academician Isa Habibbayli the Chairman of Committee for Science and Education in the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the vice-president of ANAS on “Role of science and legislation in Economic Reforms”, and Academician Rasim Aliguliyev on “The role of modern technologic opportunities and ICT in economic development” in this event. The representatives of scientific community of Azerbaijan assessing the “Strategic Road Map for national economy and major sectors of economy” as a high – level document stated that that the competitiveness of economy would increase and the social welfare of the people would improve as a result of implementation of this document under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev.
