The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication presented the Export Review issue for February 2021. The Review mentions that during January, the export of Azerbaijan amounted to 1.6 billion US dollars, including non-oil export equal to 146 million US dollars. The non-oil export increased by 5.2 million US dollars or 3.7 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
In January 2021, the value of non-oil products exported to Turkey amounted to 52.7 million US dollars, Russia – 42.8 million US dollars, Switzerland – 10 million US dollars, Georgia – 6.4 million US dollars, and to China – 4.3 million US dollars.
In January 2021, persimmon (16.7 million US dollars) took first place among exported products of the non-oil sector. Raw cotton (14.3 million US dollars) and peeled hazelnut (10.2 million US dollars) shared second and third places.
During first two months of 2021, exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to 37 million, cotton fiber – 14.3 million, aluminum and products made from it – 13.8 million, chemical industry products – 3 million, ferrous metals and products made from them – 7.8 million, cotton yarn – 3.2 million, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks – 1 million, sugar – 1.5 million, vegetable and animal fat and oils – 1.7 million, and tea – 760 thousand US dollars.
The January issue of the Export Review presents a rating of the main non-oil sector exporting companies. The top ten companies in the ranking of non-state exporters in 2021 are the following: MKT Industrial Commerce LLC, Almeyve LLC, Baku Steel Company LLC, Critical Fruit LLC, Agrovest LLC, Sun Food LLC, Land Lojistic LLC, P-Agro LLC, Metal Trader LTD, and RAM International Transportation and Trade LLC.
The list of state-owned companies involved in export operations in the non-oil sector is headed by the SOCAR Marketing and Economic Operations Department. Next on this list are Azeraluminium LLC, Azergold CJSC, Azercotton Agricultural and Industrial Complex LLC, Azerenergy OJSC, Azeripek LLC, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Azertutun Agricultural and Industrial Complex LLC, and Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC.
The Export Review also informs on the export of services. According to the Review, in January 2021, Azercosmos OJSC exported services (satellite telecommunication and optical services) worth 1.98 million US dollars to 21 countries of the world. Profit earned from the export of services amounted to 84 percent of the total profit of Azercosmos OJSC. In January 2021, Azercosmos exported its services to the UK, France, USA, UAE, Pakistan, and Turkey.
The decline in the tourism sector as a result of the crisis caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continued in the first month of this year. 36,1 thousand foreigners and stateless persons arrived in Azerbaijan from 105 countries. That is 6.3 times less than in the same period last year. The visits were mainly for non-tourism purposes.
In January 2021, the total cost of operations made by foreign citizens through bank cards in our country amounted to 25 million manat.
The Export Review also provides information on export orders submitted to the Azexport.az portal in January 2021. The total amount of export orders submitted to the portal for this period amounted to 53.9 million US dollars. In January 2021, the list of the most popular exported goods included: hazelnuts, chicken, raw cotton, chicken eggs, cottonseed oil, licorice root, pomegranate juice and seeds, butter, garlic, wine, tea, paint, cosmetics, persimmon, diagnostic device, etc. From January 2017 to January 31, 2021 (for 49 months), the value of export orders received by the portal Azexport.az from 143 countries amounted to 2 billion 250 million US dollars.
At the same time, according to the Export Review, during January 2021, the total cost of the non-oil export implemented through the One-Stop-Shop Export Support Center was 20.1 million US dollars. From 2017 to February 2021, the total amount of goods and products exported through the One-Stop-Shop Export Support Center was 502.2 million US dollars.
