Rashad Najafli, Deputy Head of the Economic Analysis Department at the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), participated in an international policy dialogue organized by the CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation) Institute on the topic "Measuring and Monitoring the Performance of CAREC Corridors for 2024." The online event brought together representatives of government bodies from regional countries, international experts, researchers, and logistics sector specialists.
Within the framework of the dialogue, R. Najafli delivered a presentation titled "Drivers of CAREC Development: The Current State of the Middle Corridor and Its Role in Shaping the Future." He provided comprehensive information on the growing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor in the Eurasian space, freight transport dynamics, the improvement of transport and logistics infrastructure, digitalization, regional integration, and investment opportunities.
The presentation highlighted that in recent years, freight volumes along the Middle Corridor have increased, delivery times have been reduced, and operational efficiency at ports and border crossing points has improved. It was noted that the adoption of digital solutions, unified logistics approaches, and regional cooperation play a decisive role in strengthening the corridor's competitiveness.
The core of the presentation drew on the research findings of the book "The Middle Corridor: Navigating Current Realities and Embracing Future Prospects," published by CAERC with the participation of 22 experts from 10 countries. This publication is regarded as one of the first large-scale international research works to comprehensively cover the geopolitical, economic, transport, and regional integration dimensions of the Middle Corridor.
During the discussions, the Middle Corridor's role in strengthening connectivity between Asia and Europe, diversifying trade routes, and promoting sustainable economic development across the CAREC region was highly commended.
It should be noted that the CAREC Institute is a leading international research and policy platform operating with the support of the Asian Development Bank, dedicated to promoting economic cooperation, knowledge exchange, and regional integration among member countries.
