The July 2020 issue of the “Export Review” published by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) has been presented.

During the first six months of 2020, Azerbaijan’s total exports amounted to 7.7 billion US dollars, while non-oil sector exports reached 911.9 million US dollars. Compared to the same period of the previous year, non-oil exports decreased by 67.6 million US dollars, or 6.9 percent.

During January–June of this year, non-oil goods worth 370.3 million US dollars were exported to Russia, 177.2 million US dollars to Türkiye, 96.1 million US dollars to Switzerland, 76.7 million US dollars to Georgia, and 28.3 million US dollars to China.

Compared to the same period in 2019, non-oil exports increased by 4.3 percent to Russia, 30.7 percent to Switzerland, and 65.5 percent to China.

Among non-oil export goods in January–June 2020, tomatoes ranked first with 162.3 million US dollars, gold (in unwrought forms not intended for coin minting) ranked second with 85.7 million US dollars, and cotton lint ranked third with 58.6 million US dollars.

Overall, during the first six months of 2020, exports included fruits and vegetables worth 328 million US dollars, cotton fiber 59.4 million US dollars, aluminum and related products 40.9 million US dollars, chemical industry products 40.6 million US dollars, ferrous metals and related products 22.3 million US dollars, cotton yarn 9.9 million US dollars, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages 6.5 million US dollars, sugar 7.7 million US dollars, vegetable and animal fats and oils 11.4 million US dollars, and tea 4.8 million US dollars.

In June 2020, non-oil exports amounted to 190.4 million US dollars. Food exports in June increased by 9.1 million US dollars, or 10 percent, compared to the same month of the previous year. The share of non-oil exports in total exports rose by 12.9 percent, reaching 26.7 percent.

In June, the largest non-oil exports were directed to Russia (99.3 million US dollars), Türkiye (32.9 million US dollars), Switzerland (24.6 million US dollars), Georgia (6.2 million US dollars), and Ukraine (5.1 million US dollars).

In June 2020, tomatoes ranked first in non-oil exports (39.2 million US dollars), followed by fresh cherries and sour cherries (32.2 million US dollars), and gold in third place (21 million US dollars).

The July issue also presents a ranking of leading non-state exporting companies. The top ten exporters in January–June include “SOCAR Polymer” LLC, “Land Logistics” LLC, “Azerbaijan International Mining Company Limited” representative office, “MKT Industrial Commercial” LLC, “Fruit Store” LLC, “Global Trade Group” LLC, “Sun Food” LLC, “Aqrovest” LLC, “Azagroexport 2017” LLC, and “Baku Steel Company.”

Among state-owned enterprises involved in non-oil exports, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Marketing and Economic Operations Department leads the list, followed by “Azergold” CJSC, “Azerenerji” JSC, “Azeraluminium” LLC, “Azerpambig Agro-Industrial Complex” LLC, “Azerbaijan Airlines” CJSC, “Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant” LLC, “AzerTobacco Agro-Industrial Complex” LLC, the State Energy Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and “Surakhani Machine-Building Plant” LLC.
