The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) released the March 2018 issue of the “Export Review,” covering export performance for January–February 2018.

Key highlights for the non-oil sector:

  • Total exports (Jan–Feb 2018): 241.7 million USD, up 37.4% compared to the same period in 2017.

  • Main destination countries:

    • Russia: 67.8 million USD

    • Turkey: 65.4 million USD

    • Switzerland: 25.6 million USD

    • Georgia: 17.4 million USD

    • China: 7.6 million USD

Top non-oil export products (Jan–Feb 2018):

  1. Gold – 24.4 million USD

  2. Electricity – 20.3 million USD

  3. Dates – 19 million USD

Sectoral export breakdown (Jan–Feb 2018):

  • Fruits & vegetables: 58.4 million USD

  • Plastics & related products: 23.9 million USD

  • Aluminum & products: 20.7 million USD

  • Electricity: 20.3 million USD

  • Black metals & products: 9.7 million USD

  • Chemical industry products: 6.6 million USD

Growth compared to Jan–Feb 2017:

  • Electricity exports increased 5.9 times

  • Fruits & vegetables: +50.9%

  • Cotton yarn: +43.4%

  • Black metals: +14.8%

  • Chemical products: +7.2%

February 2018 highlights:

  • Non-oil exports in Feb 2018: 119 million USD

  • Top country: Turkey – 42.3 million USD

  • Top exported products:

    1. Electricity – 17.7 million USD

    2. Low-density polyethylene – 8.8 million USD

    3. Gold – 19 million USD

  • Main service export countries: France, UAE, Germany, Georgia, China, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Cyprus, CAR, UK, Ukraine.

Foreign visitors and spending:

  • January 2018: 186,200 foreign and non-citizen arrivals, 16.4% increase from January 2017

  • Bank card transactions by foreigners: 99.8 million AZN, 15% increase from January 2017

Azexport.az portal February orders:

  • Total export orders: 37.6 million USD

  • Cumulative (Jan 2017 – Feb 2018): 594.1 million USD from 81 countries

  • Top destination countries: Russia (22%), Turkey (8%), Ukraine (8%), Saudi Arabia (6%), UAE (6%)

  • Top exported items: wine, hazelnuts, tea, dates, apples, pomegranate juice, strawberries, silk carpets, licorice, saffron, mushrooms, confectionery, fruit-flavored milk, sugar, eggs, butter, dairy products, medical gauze, construction bricks, bedding sets, canned meat, wheat flour, etc.
