The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication presented the Export Review issue for January 2021. During 2020, the overall export of Azerbaijan amounted to 13.7 billion US dollars, including non-oil export equal to 1.9 billion US dollars. The non-oil export decreased by 102 million US dollars or 5.2 percent comparing with 2019.

In 2020, the value of non-oil products exported to Russia amounted to 691 million US dollars, Turkey – 377.8 million US dollars, Switzerland – 224.8 million US dollars, Georgia – 127.6 million US dollars, and to China – 44.5 million US dollars.

Last year, gold (not used in the coin cutting, and in other unprocessed forms – 205.6 million US dollars) took first place among exported products of the non-oil sector. Tomatoes (201.4 million US dollars) and cotton fiber (131.9 million US dollars) shared second and third places.

In general, during 2020, exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to 607.7 million, cotton fiber – 133.2 million, aluminum and products made from it – 113.4 million, chemical industry products – 85.2 million, ferrous metals and products made from them – 52.4 million, cotton yarn – 19 million, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks – 12 million, sugar – 26.9 million, vegetable and animal fat and oils – 24.7 million, and tea – 9.5 million US dollars.

If compared with 2019, during 2020, the export of fruits and vegetables increased by 0.3 percent, vegetable and animal fat and oils – 34 percent, sugar – 0.1 percent, and cotton fiber – 7.6.

In December 2020, the export in the non-oil sector amounted to 212.5 million US dollars. During this month, the share of the non-oil export in the total amount of export was 31.4 percent, which is more for 23.1 percent if compared with the previous period. In December 2020, the share of food products in the non-oil sector was 34.4 percent, and the share of the non-food sector export – 65.6 percent.

In December 2020, most of the products not related to the oil and gas sector were exported to Russia (62.8 million US dollars), Turkey (57.3 million US dollars), Switzerland (23.5 million US dollars), Georgia (10.7 million US dollars), and to Uzbekistan (7.6 million US dollars).

In December 2020, persimmon (26.7 million US dollars) took first place among the products exported in the non-oil sector. Gold (21.9 million US dollars) and cotton fiber (21.3 million US dollars) shared the second and third places. 

The January issue of the Export Review presents a rating of the main non-oil sector exporting companies. During 2020, the top ten companies in the ranking of non-state exporters are the following: Representation of Azerbaijan International Mining Company Limited in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Socar Polymer LLC, Land Lojistic LLC, MKT Industrial Commerce LLC, Almeyve LLC, Sun Food LLC, Global Trade Group LLC, Baku Steel Company, Agrovest LLC, and P-Agro LLC.

The list of state-owned companies involved in export operations in the non-oil sector is headed by the SOCAR Marketing and Economic Operations Department. Next on this list are Azergold CJSC, Azeraluminium LLC,  Azerenergy OJSC, Azercotton Agricultural and Industrial Complex LLC, Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, Azertutun Agricultural and Industrial Complex LLC, Azeripel LLC, Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC, and State Energy Service of Nakhchivan AR.

In January-December 2020, Azercosmos OJSC exported services (satellite telecommunication and optical services) worth 45.1 million US dollars to 33 countries of the world. Profit earned from the export of services amounted to 90 percent of the total profit of Azercosmos OJSC. In December 2020, Azercosmos exported services worth 3.8 million US dollars to 23 countries. The main list of countries to which Azercosmos exported its services in January-December 2020 includes France, the UK, the USA, Malaysia, and UAE.

According to the Export Review, the situation in connection with the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Azerbaijan as in other countries has not passed without impact on the tourism sector. As a result, in December 2020, the total cost of operations made by foreign citizens through bank cards in our country amounted to 27.9 million manats. In general, in January-December 2020, this figure was 430.2 million manats.

Furthermore, the Export Review informs on export orders submitted to the Azexport.az portal in January-December 2020. The total amount of export orders submitted to the portal for this period amounted to 610.8 million US dollars. In December 2020, the volume of export orders received by the portal amounted to 57.5 million US dollars. From January 2017 to December 31, 2020 (for 48 months), the value of export orders received by the portal Azexport.az from 142 countries amounted to 2 billion 195.6 million US dollars.

At the same time, according to the Export Review, during January 2020, the total cost of the non-oil export implemented through the One-Stop-Shop Export Support Center was 8.8 million US dollars. The total cost of goods and products exported through the One-Stop Shop Export Support Center during 2020 amounted to 182.8 billion US dollars.

The purpose of the “Export Review” is to educate entrepreneurs about exports, increase the possibilities of supplying local products to traditional and new markets, and speed up the process of integration into international markets.
