The Joint Statement signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People's Republic of China on the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership relations promises new opportunities for the field of e-commerce, and the deepening of economic relations between the two countries and the development of paperless e-commerce are indicated as one of the priority directions.

The “Azexport.az” portal, operated by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, has been organizing the publication of Azerbaijani products on up to 15 leading e-commerce platforms in the world since 2017. Among the successes achieved in this direction, the Chinese “Alibaba” platform holds a special place. The head of the portal, Aykhan Gadashov, said that there is a history of cooperation between “Azexport” and the “Alibaba” platform that has been going on for more than seven years. At the first stage of cooperation, about 10 products of only three local companies were represented on this platform. As a result of the activities of the “Azexport” portal, these figures have increased rapidly, and currently “Alibaba” has become one of the leading platforms in terms of the number of export orders and inquiries for Azerbaijani products. Within the framework of this cooperation, the access of Azerbaijani products not only to the Chinese market, but also to other Asian countries, Oceania and the Gulf region has significantly expanded.

Aykhan Gadashov noted that the “Alibaba” platform is a modern and strategically important digital resource in terms of increasing the international competitiveness of products manufactured in Azerbaijan and ensuring access to new markets. At the same time, the recognition and support of cooperation in the field of e-commerce at the highest level by both countries creates conditions for using broader opportunities in this area.

The head of the “Azexport” portal believes that from now on, cooperation will further increase in such areas as deep integration into China's digital trade ecosystem, exchange of experience in the field of digital technologies, investment by Chinese companies in the field of e-commerce and logistics in Azerbaijan, and the creation of joint production and export opportunities in Azerbaijan. In addition, Azerbaijan's location on global trade routes and its growing economic influence at the international level form a favorable environment for leading Chinese e-commerce companies to expand their activities in our country. This, in turn, plays an important role in promoting the “Made in Azerbaijan” brand and increasing the export potential of the non-oil sector.
